Summertime Aches & Pains

My back aches and seems to get tighter with every move I make. Simply squeezing lotion into my hands sparks cringing pain in my forearms. That is utterly pathetic.

I do have an excuse for how pathetic I am today though. This weekend, I learned how to water ski.

It definitely involved many face plants into the water. Not to mention the number of times my nose was filled with water and my butt skidded across the surface of Spofford Lake.

It took a couple times to get all the way up, but once I was up, I flew around that lake. Until, of course, I hit a wave and flopped over into the water.

But, after a few tries, I had the feel of it. On Sunday, I got up on my first try. I was so proud and excited that I forgot that I didn’t know how to stop. The previous day, every time I stopped was because I fell. I figured I would fall eventually so I just kept going.

But I didn’t fall. I kept going around and around the lake. My hands were slipping, my legs were shaking, and my arms ached.

Too afraid to let go with one hand to signal to the driver to stop the boat, I decided screaming would be a good alternative.

“I DON’T KNOW HOW TO STOP! WHAT DO I DO?” I screamed over the roaring engine. No one could hear me, but luckily one of my friends noticed my strange behavior.

The driver turned around and waved his hand, making the stopping signal, then shrugged his shoulders. I viciously nodded.

He motioned for me to just let go of the handle… just what I was afraid of. I didn’t want to go tumbling through the water.

He slowly brought the boat to a stop, and just when I was going slow enough I freed the handle from my death grip, screamed, then plopped into the water. That wasn’t so bad.

This morning however, it is. Oops.
